Köchel K200 is a 2-way horn speaker, 95db, 8 ohms (± 1.5) using rear horn loading of an 8" mid-woofer and a horn loaded soft dome tweeter with a proprietary coating offering clear, neutral sonics similar to the reference K300 but in a more compact 36"x12"x15" (HxWxD) and affordable enclosure.
Utilizing a modified soft dome tweeter sourced from Europe and an 8" mid-woofer similar to the bass driver in the critically acclaimed K300, both drivers are very flat and require minimal correction in the crossover for maximum resolution and a very flat, easy to drive 8ohms load. The crossover has been designed for phase coherency and time alignment for superb imaging qualities. The rear-loaded horn enclosure, like the K300's, has been designed to eliminate "horn colorations" of lesser designs. Flat to 20khz, it offers full extension of top octaves to capture the air and space that adds to that sense of realism that single driver designs cannot match.
Like the reference quality K300, typical "horn colorations" have been replaced with a clear, neutral sound with all of the audiophile qualities of a superb focused image that extends above and behind the speakers, blazingly fast transients for exceptional detail & life and, of course, effortless dynamics that add the emotion to the performance! Vocals are clear and rich, cymbals are smooth and sparkly and mid-upper bass is fast, tight with superb detail and emotional energy!
As a bonus the K200's, like the K300's as noted in Art Dudley's Listener review, do not require the excessive listening distances (10'-14' is not untypical) like many other horn loudspeakers to properly integrate the drivers making more smaller to midsized rooms more accommodating. The extremely fast, very low-distortion horn-loaded drivers in the K200's (and the K300's, too!) provide superb "pace and timing" that is typically associated with the finest British speakers!
The K200's will maintain their clear sonics without musical and dynamic compression even with higher-powered amplification. The K200's can work with low output SET's such as 2A3's and also with quality, solid state amplifiers that allow those amps to operate quite well indeed with their first few watts, typically the most linear of their power range.
The K200's mate exceptionally well with the affordable WAVAC Audio Lab's MD-811 and MD-300B SET amplifiers and both can be used as an integrated or stereo amplifier.
